Curt Mahlstedt
Yacht Broker
The boating began when Curt Mahlstedt’s wife, Karen, suggested they buy a sailboat. They purchased a C&C 35, which they kept on Lake Ontario, and have been sailing ever since. Curt remains grateful to Karen to this day and admits that she’s almost always right. Curt soon became deeply involved in both racing and cruising, participating in both PHRF and dinghy racing in Southern New England. He went on to build a Laser Frostbite winter sailing fleet at the Bristol Yacht Club in Rhode Island, which is still running strong today. For 20 years, Curt and Karen annually cruised the Southern New England waters in their Pearson 362, Aquavit, enjoying ports from Long Island to Cape Ann, including Buzzards Bay, Nantucket, and the Vineyard.
Today, Curt lives in Sarasota, Florida, where they cruise in their Island Packet 32, Solstice, on the waters of the Gulf. He remains an active racer, competing in the 2.4mR, the smallest international class keelboat. Passionate about boats and the water, Curt enjoys how boating creates a unique community. He observes that "everyone needs help, and everyone lends a hand; you do not even know each other, but then you do."
Curt has extensive experience with a variety of vessels and systems, from basic coastal cruisers to passage makers. Teaming with CJ Yachts, Curt ensures that if he does not have an answer, the team at CJ Yachts have it or will find it. That is how we work, whether we are selling your current boat, finding your next one, or assisting with your very first purchase.
